All Cicero District 99 offices and buildings will be closed Thursday, July 3 and Friday, July 4 in observance of the holiday. We will reopen on Monday, July 7.

This 4th of July, we celebrate more than fireworks and festivities — we honor a bold idea that changed the course of history: that freedom belongs to the people.

When the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776, it wasn't just a rebellion — it was a radical declaration of human dignity. At a time when monarchies ruled and people were subjects, America dared to say all are created equal — a truth still echoing across generations.

But freedom didn't come easily. It never does. It took courage, sacrifice, and unity. And today, the same spirit lives on — in our classrooms, in our communities, and in every student who dreams big and dares to rise. 

As we celebrate with family and friends, take a moment to remember: freedom is not just inherited — it's lived, taught, and protected. Let's honor it by lifting each other up, giving back, and moving forward together.
